#3 : Joe Hunter

My name is Joe Hunter and I was on the Glassboro team from 82-85, wearing no. 3 and playing defense. I think I may have been one of the captains for the last year or two, but the boys can keep me in check on that. I do have at least one of my old jerseys and my old team jacket, and will bring them along for the reunion for a couple laughs. I’m married with two boys, 6 and 9, both of whom have taken up hockey as well, and have the unfortunate fate of being a lawyer. I still play quite a bit, and, being out here in “The OC” in sunny southern California, I get the luxury of skating with a lot of off season and retired pros. For giggles, I’ve attached pictures of me with Stanley Cup and Olympic gold winner Teemu Selanne, and my boys with 4x Cup winner Scott Nedermeyer (both of whom are truly great and fun guys on and off the ice). We really appreciate Rowan giving us the opportunity/excuse to get together again and re-live our misspent youth at the “Boro”. We’re looking forward to it!
#24 : Joe Turcotte
My name is Turcotte and 5 months after grabbing the old sheepskin at Graduation from the 'Boro, I married Kathy Anderson (legendary Prof Hockey Scorekeeper). We'll be married 25years this November. We live in Somers Point,NJ. We have two kids.....our daughter Kerri is 20 and attending ACCC and working fulltime....Our son Chris is a Freshman at California University of PA, where he carries on the family business as a goalie for their ACHA Hockey Club. I can't forget to mention the other three Turcotte "children" Boomer the dog ....Bravo and Prowler the Cats. I work for a Company called Grainger Industrial Supply, after a long career in the Wholesale Beer/Brewery industry. We've been a hockey family since 'Boro Hockey days. I've been involved in organizing, administrating, coaching with various DE,Roller and ice hockey organizations for the past 25 years. Two blown knees playing softball have kept me away from the ice for awhile. Kath is an experienced goalie mom. My daughter Kerri tenured her retirement from any form of hockey 10 years ago. Chris has played Travel and High school hockey for 14 years and continue to at college. The highlight of my post 'Boro Hockey life was the establishment of the ice hockey program for our local high school. Myself and some other hockey parents built an independent high school hockey club here in the hockey desert of Southern New Jersey. Our first and brightest move was recruiting an old friend of mine to be our first coach, some guy named John Caulfield....wonder where he is now.
Boro Flashbacks: (1) Final game of Sophomore year vs TCNJ at Mercer county park(half indoor -outdoor rink) 40 degree day....playing the game as the ice melted beneath us. (2) Final game of Junior year at Toms River vs Ocean County College: Tony Fasano telling us between 2nd and 3rd period how we should keep our cool, Pat Boyhan stepped up saying"next time one of these guys runs you ,kick his ass"". That's pretty much all we needed. The third period donnybrook was classic. ..........Mike Kennedy bludgeoning some goon with his blocker......The Third line guys hoppin the boards with smiles on their faces as they waded into the melee......."old time hockey" 15 fights going on at once....fighting the fans that climbed the boards to get at us.....Jeff Suskind looking like Rocky taking on all comers.......The coup de gras was the Police escort out of the rink and Toms River, coolest thing was first cop on the scene was Ronnie Massari one of our goalies from the year before.)It was my first Game Misconduct and I wear it with pride to this day. (3) Beating St.Joes at their rink senior year, a coming out game "those farm boys from south jersey can play". (4) Dave Snyder one of the Canadians Tony Fasano imported to play baseball, coming to practice drunk and Dave Craven have him run laps around the outside of the rink in his gear. (5) Dave Craven. (6) "Doc" the big bus driver. (7) "Mellie the Dobie" Cravens dog. (8) Drinkin from the Pizzutti bowl at the Roadhouse. (9) The emptiness after the make-up Lasalle game playoff loss senior year. The last time I'd be able to be part of this "team". It was a truly special time with a truly special group.
#11 : Joe Mullen

I joined the GSC Profs during the fall of 1979 and played Defense for most of my college career with the likes of Lou Gambo, Paul Timko, Scotty Merkle, Jeff Cerciello, and Joey Hunter. All very talented defensemen who I picked up bad habits from. Just kidding' guys; It was my honor to play with all of you. I lived in the Laurel Quad freshman year and resided at the Triad afterwards, hence the nickname Joey 'Triad' Mullen. I worked as a campus security guard, mostly ticketing cars but hated it, hey I had a quota to reach, but was more interested in going back to the dorm and watching General Hospital while getting h___ oops!! I mean paid. Don't tell campus security. I currently live in Voorhees NJ, I have two boys in High School, Connor 16, who played hockey for several years, now plays Varsity Lacrosse and Stephen 14, who plays quarterback for the freshman football team. As most fathers know, we are rarely in any of our family pictures because we are the ones who take most of the pictures, so I have attached a photo I'm very fond of with me and my boys from a few years ago. And I found one hockey picture. But anyway, I've worked for almost 20 years for US Food service out of Bridgeport NJ, a major National Food Distributor. Who by the way, has supplied Rowan's home rink, Hollydell, with it's quality food for years. I've been playing in Men's leagues for almost 25 years with the likes of Alumnus Bobby O'Donnell, Jeff McDade, and Fred Volpe. Currently I'm playing on the same Hockey team with Tom Borkowski; why you ask? well for many reasons. For one, he always brings beer, two, I still enjoy watching him trip over the blue line, but most importantly, since I assisted on Tom's record breaking goal at GSC, I've felt it's been my calling in life to follow him through his Hockey career, kind of like his guardian. Or at least he tells me he currently has the scoring record at GSC, one can't be too sure of anything Tommy says anymore. Maybe Coach Caulfield can research the record books to see if this record still stands. I'm sure we'd all be interested in hearing about the Rowan History book and/or folklore. During my tenure with GSC I mainly played Defense, however, I vaguely remember Coach Craven's telling me to play some offense when he thought it was necessary to cycle the puck down low and muck it up on the boards. I always remember the fans yelling at me, "You mucker". Or at least I thought that's what they were saying. I even played goalie one game against Millersville, I guess our goalie was on vacation or nursing a hangover, I can't remember why, but remarkably we won 6-4 and a very fond memory of that game was me letting in a goal from a red line shot. Immediately after, the Coach called a time out and I skated to the boards and attempted a hockey stop, swiftly falling flat on my back with my skates hitting high on the boards. What fun the team had with that after the game. Since that day, I've always wondered why goalie skates were so dull? My best... 'you had to be there story' ....was while in the penalty box at the Univ of Penn class of '23 Rink. A La Salle fan leaned over the wall, noticeably pouring a beer from a keg, and asked " Where are you going to College after Glassboro?" After serving my penalty and laughing hysterically, I went back to our bench to repeat the sentiment. We all got a huge laugh, and then we proceeded to come from behind to beat La Salle with 'my' game winning goal. You couldn't write that story any better. Another great memory was when Pat Boyhan, and I went down to the casinos with Coach Craven. Back then you only had to be 18 to gamble, nice !!!, so we hit the Tropicana, no sooner than we were there, I looked down on the floor while waiting to get on a black jack table and to my surprise found a $500 chip. You can just imagine my feeling. I gambled about $100 away and then took the three of us to dinner at world famous 'Zaberers' where we had a five course meal, drinks all night and a commemorative picture of the occasion. And no, we weren't' the ones who burned the place down. Later that night I was heard worshiping the porcelain God, and of course slept in the next day until 4PM. Good Times!!! I had so many fond memories at GSC, as every GSC/Rowan student knows, Thursday nights hold some of our best memories, for me especially those times with a beautiful red head named Monique, by far the best ever........GSC Hockey scorekeeper and much more. Campus parties, Frat parties, bon fires at the 'Crossings', spring jams in the Quad, the list goes on and on. However, as far as hockey goes, every road trip was memorable whether it be for a practice or a game, they were simply the best times. Jay Turcotte reminded us of our GSC Greyhound bus driver, Doc, who so smoothly drove us to our games and practices at the University of Delaware, or those times we piled into those School vans heading anywhere, as New Yorker's say "What a Pisser". We had so many road trips and I firmly believe those adventures helped build our character and molded us for life. I am so looking forward to this upcoming weekend to reminisce on how great those years were with you guys and continue to collect new memories that will last a life time.
#26 : Scot 'SCOTTIE MERXS' Merkle

I I joined the 'GlassBoro State Profs Ice Hockey Team in the Autumn of 1979, that included a Frosh Class with the likes of 'Joey 'Triad' Mullen,'
'Patti 'RoadHouse' Boyhan,' 'Jay 'ZBT' Turcotte,' and 'William / Billy 'Sig Ep' Zuckerman'. These were trying times for a first time College Student, we had the worst President ever in Office, gas went from .35 cents a Gallon to a $1.35!
Mortgage Rates were 20%, Car Financing was 10%, and we had the Iran Hostage Crisis. of my most memorable events were my Freshmen Year! With the Best being in February 1980! We had just completed two away Games, one with Ramapo College,
way up in Northern New Jersey, if I recall their Home Ice was in Monsey NY!?! Ramapo was a ranked and formidable Team in a Big University League! They considered us a Practice game!?!
We started the Game with a fury and forechecked them to death, at the end of the 1st Period
I believe the score was 2 - 1; Second period more of the same with a 5 - 4 Ramapo Lead, and then the Ramapo Team got serious and put a significant Beat Down on us! I recall every time
touching the puck in the 3rd Period I was getting Crushed / Nestled into the Boards!?! Final Score was 9 - 5. The next Nite we were at West Chester State,
where we had another close game but lost. But the Biggest Event during that time period was watching the USA Olympic Ice Hockey Team beat Russia and then Norway for the 1980 Winter Olympics Gold Medal! recall a Bunch of us Freshmen all in the Basement on the Girls side of Laurel Hall, Joey 'Triad' Mullen was there! We had a KEG! And all went Crazy when the Amateurs and University Players Coached
by Herb Brooks and Craig Patrick Drubbed the Russian Team!?! I was dating 'Janet Press' and afterwards we really celebrated!?! Another Great Memory from the Spring of Frosh Year was with our illustrious Team CPT, Dave 'Big Dave (Guy was something like 6' 4'!?!) Cilaberti. Good dude, good player, and threw great parties.
I recall the Spring of 80 and CPT Dave had Joey Triad, Patti RoadHouse, and I all over at his place in Mansion Park in his second floor apartment with our new 'Cavalry Yellow' (As Tex Minter would say 'BEE Jackets!')
GSC Ice Hockey Jackets on and as a Successful Rookie Year / Initiation he and several others from the Team put the Song on by George ThouroGood and the Delaware Destroyers: 'If you like One bourbon, One Scotch and One beer'
and every time George sang that phrase they made us three Rookie Freshmen drink! One bourbon, One Scotch and One beer'...........within 10 seconds! I remember Puking off that Back Porch and fertilizing the Mansion Park backYard Area!?!
I won't Punk out Boyhan and / or Mullen because those guys had Guts of Steel, but I believe we all puked our guts off the Mansion Park Back Porch that lovely Spring Day for our GSC Ice Hockey Initiation!?! We use to travel on the Big GSC FootBall Bus! Way Cool! During my Senior Year (82 - 83) I was always impressed with 'Joey 'HOLLYWOOD' Hunter'
always studying on the long Bus Rides down to the University of Delaware where our Home and Practice Ice was! I guess it paid off he's now a Big Time / $ Attorney in Southern California~! My Final Big Time walk down GSC Ice Hockey Memory Lane was my Senior Year. First I roomed with 'Ricky 'Squirrell' Merrill' in the Crossings! And then the GSC Team went to the Playoffs!
In the 1st Round we had La Salle and had beaten them twice during Regular Season Play!?!
Well I recall playing over in Valley Forge, PA and the Game having something like three Overtimes!?! ! ; Finally the League President called the Game at like 0200AM and we went Home only to return the following afternoon to lose
the Make-Up Game! I was never so Proud in my Life to be able to play with the likes of 'Lou Gambo' as my Defensive partner, with the Front Line consisting of Tommie Borkowski at Center,
and Freddie Volpe with Robbie MaCewen on the Wings!?! As a Senior I was in awe playing with such caliber!?! Thanxs for a Great Senior year! All in all, I went on to serve 25+ years in the United States Army, continuing to play Hockey at each and every duty station! I've had a Charmed Career and Life and it all started at GlassBoro State!
#16 : Tom Borkowski

My name is Tom Borkowski and I played on the Glassboro State team from 1982-86. I wore #16, played center and captained the team for the ‘85 and ‘86 seasons. I currently reside in Shamong, NJ with my wife Robin, daughter, Devon (8) and son, John (5). In the summer we can be found in LBI and in the winter I continue to play in a men’s league in with fellow alumnus – Joe Mullen, although at a much slower pace than the GSC years. Participating in the GSC hockey program was one of the best experiences of my life and provided countless fantastic memories. But, most importantly, it forged lifelong friendships with the guys that played and the friends that supported the team. We were a tight-knit group both on and off the ice that worked hard, partied hard and looked out for each other. Everyone contributed to not only keeping the program alive during some difficult times (finding a coach, getting funding and school support), but also helping it succeed and become a school tradition. I’m glad the guys on the current Rowan team are continuing this great tradition and I can’t wait to lace them up again with the boys and play a little “Eddie Shore” hockey on Oct 4th.
#18 : Jeff Hoover

I played 4 years for GSC, 1982-86. We had some great teams during those years. Playing for GSC was a great experience and I'm lucky to have some life-long friendships with my teammates. We are a tight group, staying in-touch through emails and some getting together for golf every Father's Day, of course we have a few drinks and tell stories of our days playing for GSC.
I can still remember the late nights getting home after 2am from games and practices. We played in some unique places, I'll never forget playing at the Hershey Bears Arena and getting the bridge of my nose sliced open. Also, playing in some outdoor rink in PA where we had a path through the snow from the locker room to the rink.
My wife, Kellie (who also was a GSC graduate and would make the trips to UD for our home games) and I have three kids; Jeffrey, Kendall and Keegan. We live in Dublin Ohio and I work for IBM. I got back to playing after 15 years away, and have been active either in an Adult Hockey League or just doing some drop-ins with my son. I coached my older son's house and travel teams when he was younger and look forward to doing the same for my 6 year old son. I'm currently a Trustee for the Dublin High School Hockey Association where we run 3 Varsity and 2 JV teams
Since their inception, I've been a season ticket holder for the Columbus Blue Jackets. It's been great to have a NHL team in our city as it has exponentially grown interest in hockey from all ages. When I moved to Columbus, we had 2 sheets of ice, one for Ohio State and one for a semi pro team at the fairgrounds. We now have 13 sheets. Now I look forward to the season that the Jackets make the playoffs!
#12 : Scott Marsden
I played for Glassboro State from 1982-1985. I have always said if I had one wish to be granted it would be to be in the locker room with all of my teammates and pull that jersey over my head just one more time. I can't believe I am being afforded this opportunity.
I live in Annapolis, MD with my wife of 17 years, Heather, and my three children, Lauren Elizabeth (14), Alexander William (11) and Caroline Emma (9). They are all active in sports. My two daughters swim for the Naval Academy Aquatic Club year round, and my son runs cross country as well as playing basketball and lacrosse. I am a senior vice president for Bank of America on the capital markets side and have bee with them 15years. It has been quite an adventure of late. We spend a great deal of our summer on our boat which we keep in Ocean City , MD for half of the summer and in Annapolis the rest of the year.. My kids have become quite proficient at off shore fishing. I would love to share many stories, hover they are probably best kept between my teammate and me. The best memory though was my junior year when we beat LaSalle in back to back games, 5-2 at our place and 4-3 at theirs. the games were played on a Thursday night and Saturday afternoon allowing all of the bad blood to remain fresh in our minds and on our jerseys. I'll never forget the front page of The Whit proclaiming "ICEMEN FROST LASALLE". Still warms heart to hear those words. I didn't like them. Not one little bit. I learned more in the locker room than I ever did in the classroom about being successful at something. Thanks for all of the memories.
